The arrival of the new G81 M3 Touring is a big deal. It’s the first M3 Touring ever and only the third-ever M Touring of any sort, so, understandably, we’ve got fast wagons on the brain for this issue. Not only do we have a first drive of the new M3 Touring, but we’ve also got retrospectives on the E34 and E61 M5 Tourings, plus we take a little look at the two M Tourings that never were, the E39 M5 and the E46 M3 versions. Now, exciting as the new M3 Touring is, it’s got nothing on our cover car this month, and this E30 M3 is simply epic on every level. As if starting with arguably BMW’s most iconic sports cars wasn’t enough, this example has been treated to a selection of stunning upgrades, including air-ride, custom one-off wheels, a fully retrimmed interior, plus the small matter of the S14 under the bonnet which now sits at 2.5-litres. It’s simply stunning. Keeping things classic, we bring you an incredibly rare Koenig Specials KS8, a wide-body beast based on the E31 8 Series. And if one wide-body luxury BMW wasn’t enough, how about two of them? The owner of the E38 750iL we’ve also got in this issue decided that the standard car simply wasn’t imposing enough, and so commissioned a custom mental wide-body, and it’s given the elegant Seven some serious presence. We’ve also got a bagged G29 Z4 M40i that blends subtle styling enhancements with some spicy performance, a mighty 1M, plus a tuning guide to the G8x M3 and M4 that will help you get the most out of your M machine.
