Protect your wobbly bits

When we exercise, we want to feel confident in our kit. Confident and comfortable. Let’s face it, if you’re training for a 5k or 10k, nothing is going to stop you dead in your tracks more than unnecessary rubbing, bouncing, chafing and wobbling. It’s embarrassing, painful, and something we can all be doing without. So, girls, let’s talk strategies for protected comfort.

First up, high-waisted leggings. Perfect for containing one’s belly – and there’s a massive range on the market. I’m especially partial to those that are nice and soft at the waist, and don’t cause bulgy overspills of fat. Lululemon’s Align range is dreamy if (cue loud coughing noise) a bit pricey, but gymshark.com and myprotein.com both offer good choices and are kinder on the purse.

If you’re a shorts kinda girl, then the ones with a lycra lining will stop errant inner thighs from rubbing, and will nicely conceal a thin panty pad in case your pelvic floor isn’t what it once was.

A good sports bra to hold in ‘the girls’ through your high-impact work is essential. Not only to stop chest ligaments stretching beyond repair, but for comfort too, and to keep unwanted attention to a minimum (some people still find it acceptable to gawp).

If you’re running long distances, then a plaster over each nipple or a dab of Vaseline will prevent chafing and possibly even bleeding – ‘jogger’s nipple’ is real!

On to less wobbling, but more irritating – my nose is like a dripping tap when I exercise outside, so a wristband might be handy for wiping sweat and noses. I believe they
