Lorraine Kelly opens up about getting older, losing weight and her mum’s beauty advice

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

At the beginning of the year, Lorraine Kelly made a decision. After gaining weight throughout lockdowns, the Scottish telly presenter admitted to fans she was feeling ‘unhealthy’ and needed to ‘kickstart’ her routine and lose a bit of weight.

Now, as we pass the midpoint of the year, Lorraine has dropped a stone and a half and is feeling better than ever. Crediting her new figure to a WW diet plan, the star tells Woman’s Own, ‘I’m back in my size 10, I can get back into my red dress that I loved. I feel better. I’ve got lots more energy
- it’s about being healthy and happy, that’s the main thing.’

Despite getting back to her old self - even recently revealing she’d fit back into the dress she wore for her 1992 wedding to husband Steve - the star insists it wasn’t just about dropping pounds. ‘It’s just about health more than anything else,’ she says. ‘I don’t have scales, although I have lost almost a stone and a half. But it’s more about getting into my clothes again and fitting into all those clothes I couldn’t. It’s like, yay! That’s a great feeling.’

TAKING ON THE WORLD

Lorraine tells Woman’s Own that after her steady lockdown weight gain, her stylist managed to find ‘flattering’ clothes for her telly appearances. ‘You do feel it - it affects your confidence. That’s when I just feel like I can take on the world.’ The 62-year-old - who has a daughter Rosie, 28, with husband Steve - says her health weighs more on her mind these days. ‘As you get older you just have to take a bit more care of yourself. I can’t be tired all the time - I can’t be because of the job that I do, so I definitely don’t feel as tired. I’ve got loads more energy.’

Today, the star says she uses the WW app to track things like her water intake and make healthier choices. She says, ‘I still eat and drink what I want to drink, just less of. A lot of it is just portion control and eating the right things.’

Being up with the larks each morning could take its toll on anyone’s skin routine, but Lorraine has some handy advice in her back pocket thanks to her mum. ‘I do have facials now and again, they’re fantastic and I love them,’ she says. ‘But my mum drummed into me about moisturising as I do get dry skin.’
