WilliamUNDER PRESSURE

As heir to the throne and a monarchy that’s slimmer than it’s ever been, there’s no doubt that Prince William will currently be feeling the pressure. The unprecedented statement about his wife’s health on 17 January meant that all his work engagements were cancelled so that he could support the Princess of Wales while she recovers, and be there for their children. But with very few working royals, it isn’t easy for William to down tools. It will have been made harder by his father, the King, announcing that same week he too would be having an op, for an enlarged prostate, and therefore would not return to public duty for a while also, meaning that William is needed more than ever.

The news of Kate’s hospital stay caused concern for many, with royal commentator Kinsey Schofield admitting that while the surgery was planned, the situation has, unsurprisingly, unnerved the prince: ‘While she [Kate] handles things with such kindness and grace and appears to be so stoic, clearly, none of us are invincible and William worries about Catherine as his wife and the mother of their children.’

Meanwhile, despite many calling on the Duke of Sussex to lend support during this difficult time, Harry was pictured attending a glitzy Hollywood event. In spite of his once-close relationship with Kate, his speech at the Living Legends of Aviation awards made no reference to his family, though it’s been reported that he and Meghan sent their well wishes privately.
