Race dates are leaking from summer into autumn so if you fancy training over the warmer months, now’s the time to start narrowing your race search. We’ve got the usual varied mix of levels, terrain, location and event type. And we’ve added in an all-new orienteering race event. See you on the start line!

TEAM AND ALL LEVELS KIRKBYMOORSIDE 10K

A fast-paced, undulating road race, heading up from Kirkbymoorside in Yorkshire into the villages of Gillamoor and Fadmoor, followed by a downhill finish back to the start. ROBERTSBRIDGE MIDSUMMER 5k and 10k

A midsummer evening event that is suitable for all levels. Organisers say it is the ideal opportunity for anybody looking to complete their first 5K or 10K. There’s also a junior race. £18 for 5K, 21 June 2024, Robertsbridge, East Sussex, nice-work.org.uk

FUN RUNS and BEGINNER GATELEY HYDE PARK CHASE THE SUN

A summer’s evening race around the flat paths of Hyde Park, in London, with a good chance of snagging a personal best. It’s a battle to finish the race before the sun goes down.

NOTTINGHAM RUNNING FESTIVAL

The perfect beginner 5K that starts on a flat, easy route at Nottingham Race Course then heads out onto the wide trail paths of Colwick Country Park. Other races on offer include a 10K, half and junior event. £24 for 5K, 4 Aug 2024, Nottingham Racecourse, runabc.co.uk

INTERnational ULTRA X JORDAN

A desert course that takes you past historic sites and over incredible sand dunes. This is a multi-stage ultra over five days in the Wadi Run Desert, nicknamed The Valley of the Moon. Each stage is between 35K and 60K and competitors camp each night.

MIDNIGHT SUN MARATHON

Around 6,000 runners from all over the world gather to celebrate the longest day of the year in the Arctic capital of Norway. Most of the city is on a small island surrounded by the sea and mountains, so there’s plenty to look at as you run and during the summer the sun never sets below the horizon so you’ll see it all in glorious technicolour. Five distances to choose from including 5K, 10K and half.
