DOG-LOVER DANNI’S A CUT ABOVE!

Daring fundraiser Danni with family dogs Buddy and Ralphie shows off her new haircut.

A Scottish schoolgirl has raised a hair-raising amount of money to help homeless hounds.

Nine-year-old Danni Donaldson, from Nairn, in the Scottish Highlands, decided to have her 16-inch-long locks lopped off to raise £200 for leading canine welfare charity Dogs Trust.

Instead, the dog-loving youngster, whose family owns Jack Russell X Chihuahua brothers Buddy and Ralphie, smashed her target and collected a mammoth £1,292.

Danni, who’d proudly been growing her hair all her life, opted for a super-short Mohawk style, courtesy of TM Barbers in Inverness.

“I was a little bit nervous at first but once they’d started cutting it, I was fine,” said Danni, who donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides free wigs for children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment and other conditions.

“I’m glad I’ve done it and I was so pleased with how much support I got. I hope it helps lots of dogs.”

Danni’s dad, Steve, explained: “We are so proud of Danni. Having her hair cut off was all her idea and we just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported her.

“We don’t know what she’ll do next, but she definitely wants to continue to raise money for Dogs Trust.”

The charity, which received more than 50,000 enquiries last year from people faced with the heart-breaking decision to hand over their dogs, has rehoming centres in Glasgow and West Calder, as well as a fostering scheme in Dundee.

A Cavapoo puppy, whose injuries were described by a vet as the worst he’d seen, has defied the odds and made an amazing recovery.

Eight-month-old Rupert was attacked by another dog while on a walk near his Gloucestershire home.

Terrified owner Linda Kelley desperately tried to rescue her little Cavapoo as he was shaken like a rag doll.

Hearing her screams, a man from a nearby house ran to help and managed to prise the poor puppy from the other dog’s jaws.

“Rupert’s screams will live with me forever,” recalled Linda, who suffered a badly torn hand. “I scooped him up in my arms and a neighbour ran me to the vet’s.”
