Dreaming of a holiday with your dog where you can enjoy all the comforts of home, without worrying about where he is allowed to go? Andrea McHugh has found three great places to help kickstart your search…

SUNNYSIDE COTTAGE

ROBIN HOOD’S BAY, WHITBY Sunnyside Cottage in beautiful Robin Hood’s Bay was bought by dog lover Rachel Spencer in April 2023. This former fisherman’s cottage first opened its doors to guests and their dogs in June 2023, and people are loving it.

“When I bought Sunnyside, I really wanted it to not just be dog-friendly, but what I call ‘red carpet dog-friendly!’ says Rachel, who is the proud owner of a little terrier dog called Patch. “I want people to feel relaxed as soon as they walk through the door and to know that we realise their dogs are special. Dogs can go absolutely everywhere in the house, including on the beds, as I think there’s nothing worse than arriving somewhere, and being greeted by a list of shouty rules about where they can and can’t go! I’ve tried to think of everything a dog would need, so we provide things like dog robes, a treat jar, a lead station and a toy box.

“There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other is a twin bedroom – both with gorgeous sea views, and outside is a really pretty seating area. The beach is literally a one-minute walk from the door, and there’s so much to see and do in this area, with lots of dog-friendly pubs, cafés, bistros and shops. We can’t wait to welcome you!”

Robin Hood’s Bay is a picturesque and vibrant fishing village, perfectly situated for guests to explore its narrow, twisting cobbled streets and dog-friendly beach. With Whitby just six miles away and Scarborough 15 miles away, plus the beautiful Nork York Moors National Park, there is plenty to see and do before returning to idyllic Sunnyside for a relaxing evening with your dog.

Two small to medium dogs or one large dog are welcome free of charge.

Did you know?

Legend has it Robin Hood Hood’s Bay was named after Robin Hood encountered French pirates intent on pillaging the boats of fishermen along the northeast coast. The pirates surrendered and Robin Hood returned their loot to the poor people of the village who gratefully named the village after their hero.
