The latest issue of AW delivers you everything you need to know about the first global athletics event of the year, the World Indoor Championships. Three intense days of competition await at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow and, as well as our in-depth event-by-event previews, there are exclusive interviews with some of the biggest names in the sport. The last Scottish athletes to win World Indoor gold medals are Tom McKean and Yvonne Murray-Mooney. They recall their 1993 successes but also set the scene for these championships, assessing the strengths of the current generation, particularly medal contenders Josh Kerr and Laura Muir. One of the biggest favourites for victory in Glasgow will be high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh. Ukraine’s defending champion talks openly about what it takes to stay at the top but also the challenge of competing at the top level while war continues to rage in her home country. Shot put world record-holder Ryan Crouser is another athlete who is odds-on to take the top prize and the American explains how he set about rebuilding his technique as he continues to revolutionise the event. His US team-mates Noah Lyles and Grant Holloway will also be front and centre, in the men’s 60m and 60m hurdles respectively, and former hurdles world champion Colin Jackson runs the rule over both – as well as discussing just how big a bearing the performances in Scotland will have on the Olympic summer. Stepping outdoors, Jenny Meadows takes us inside the balancing act of managing the training group which includes British 800m star Keely Hodgkinson, while the performance section is full of expert advice, reviews of the latest footwear and a coaching conversation with On Athletic Club Europe’s Thomas Dreißgacker.
