Have you always believed in the spirit world and past lives?

I didn’t really think about it until I started losing people I loved. The first was my nanny – Dorothy – who died when I was 11. Just before she passed she said to me: ‘Look at that golden flock of birds at the end of the garden. I feel like I could fly away with them’. I never forgot it and it made me wonder what happens to our souls when we die. I’d also get déjà vu and think: ‘How do I know this place? I’ve never been here.’

Talk us through your reading with David…

David saw me in a monastery in the 18th century. I was a monk! The monastery was somewhere in Europe, possibly Italy, and set high on a steep hill or mountain.

As I went up the steps, on a cold, foggy day, I slipped – and there was no bannister, so I plummeted to my death off the side of it. He said that could trigger a fear of staircases in this life. Also, he added that my life as a monk could also have left me with a permanent sense of hunger, as food was scarce, and a need for everything to be organised.

How did you feel afterwards?

Amazed and surprised! For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a huge fear of open-tread staircases or those without proper bannisters and have visions of myself falling! As a little girl, I was in a shoe shop with my mum which had one, and all I could think about was getting my leg stuck. I
