Time to ban the sky booze?
It doesn’t matter what time of day it is, for most of us, ordering a tipple on the aeroplane before reaching your holiday destination is customary. However, one group of passengers were left unhappy on a recent Ryanair flight from Edinburgh to Tenerife, after a video appeared to show passengers who had been ‘drinking heavily’ in a brawl. In footage shared on social media, two men and a woman are seen shouting and screaming at one another. They then go on to fight each other and threaten other passengers who try to intervene. A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport stressed that bar staff wouldn’t serve passengers they believe to be drinking to excess. He added, ‘As an airport we have processes in place to deal with passengers who are disruptive and we work closely with partners, including bars, restaurants and police, to deal with any issues which arise within the terminal.’ According to figures in a survey conducted last year by the Telegraph, there were 1,028 cases of disruptive behaviour and ‘air rage’ reported by UK airlines in 2022, nearly triple the number reported in 2019.
