Normal is boring!

This issue, in our weekly showcase from our sister site Truly, Alexandra, 27, tells us why she wears her heart on her sleeve

When Alexandra steps into a room, the warmth radiates from her – the syndrome she was diagnosed with has shaped her into one of the friendliest souls you’ll meet.

‘My rare condition means I hug everyone,’ Alexandra explains.

Describing her condition as ‘like Down’s syndrome, but without chromosome seven’ Alexandra offers a glimpse into her genetic make-up.

Her older sister Victoria, 30, explains more about Williams syndrome.

‘It’s characterised by cognitive and developmental issues, highly sociable personalities, an affinity for music [and] similar facial features – including “starburst-blue eyes”,’ she says.

Alexandra’s friendliness is not without its complications.

She wants to share that love with everyone – regardless of whether she knows them.

Thankfully, Victoria is not just a sibling, she’s a constant companion and protector.

‘Not everyone is friendly, and not everyone has good intentions. I worry people will take advantage of her but I will always be there to protect my sister,’ Victoria says.

We should all see the world from her point of view

‘I used to go up to strangers and hug them, but Victoria taught me not to,’ admits Alexandra.

And for Victoria, matching Alexandra’s boundless energy feels effortless.

The two are inseparable, with days woven together by laughter and shared moments.

‘Being around her, it never feels tiring,’ Victoria says, a smile lighting up her face.

The girls love shopping for second-hand clothes.

‘I love clothes,’ Alexandra grins.

‘It’s like treasure hunting,’ adds Victoria.

As a result of this passion for fashion, the sisters have taken their creative talents in a new direction, starting a clothing business together.

Alexandra is in charge of design, ensuring each piece reflects her personality.

‘All designs are Alexandra-approved before they go online,’ Victoria proudly declares.

Their clothing line, adorned with empowering messages like ‘Stay Weird’ and ‘Normal Is Boring’, celebrates individuality. But beyond fashion, the sisters are driven by a deeper purpose.

A portion of their profits goes directly to the Williams Syndrome Association, a cause close to Alexandra’s heart.

Thanks to the friendship offered through the charity, she has connected with like-minded souls.

‘She’s made Williams syndrome friends from all over the world,’ reveals Victoria. ‘They Facebook Messenger all the time.’
