Ed praises wife cherry for ‘making everything better’

Pop legend Ed Sheeran shocked fans as he opened up last week about the demons he’s battled over recent years, revealing he suffered from depression, alcohol abuse and an eating disorder. And the 32-year-old singer songwriter credited wife Cherry Seaborn – who he’s been married to since 2018 – for helping him through it all.

Ed – who quit Instagram for three months towards the end of last year, saying he was doing so for his mental health – said in a trailer for his new Disney+ series, The Sum Of It All, that he realised his drinking had gotten out of hand, but revealed that Cherry helped him.

He said, “I’ve always been a drinker… It turns into a habit that you do once a week and then once a day and then, like, twice a day and then it just became bad vibes.”

He then revealed that it was when wife Cherry became pregnant that he decided to tackle his issue, and he credits her for helping him through that. He said, “Two months before Lyra was born, Cherry said, ‘If my waters break, do you really want someone else to drive me to the hospital?’”

He added, “Everything in my life got so much better when Cherry came into it.”

The star also broke down in tears as he revealed how Cherry’s diagnosis of a tumour while pregnant with their second daughter, Jupiter, last year – which she’s now had treatment for – led him to spiral into depression.

Describing his pain, Ed said, “I felt like I didn’t want to live anymore. And I’ve had that throughout my life . . . You’re under the waves, drowning, and you can’t get out of it.” Thankfully, Ed revealed he’s on the road to recovery with therapy.
