The friendly village of Radcliffe-onTrent, a few miles east of Nottingham, is much more than a commuter satellite. It has a busy community and plenty of shops, pubs and cafés.

The name of the village comes from the red cliffs above the River Trent, a lovely feature of this route.

The path above the river, known as ‘the Cliffs’, makes a great yearround walk with views across nearby countryside and down onto the river as it thunders over Stoke Bardolph Weir. The route descends to visit the old lily ponds, close to the weir and now a nature reserve, and loops through

trees and flowering shrubs. pretty garden is full of mature those lost in World War I, this Memorial Park. Dedicated to churches and the Rockley It also passes two country the pretty village of Shelford.

Park on R. passing Rockley Memorial path and follow it for ¼ mile, fences up to clifftop tarmac Follow footpath between immediately R up steps. under railway bridge and fork R into Wharf Lane. Follow lane Immediately after church, turn Hall, to St Mary’s church. onto Main Road, past Grange Road. At roundabout, turn R railway station down Shelford Turn L out of Radcliffe

Immediately after memorial park, turn L down steps towards River Trent below. At foot of steps, turn R on mud path near river. Follow riverside path R by weir, keeping pond on R. Follow path sharp R uphill with fence soon on R. Continue on undulating path and turn L up steps. Reaching crossroads of paths
