There are few things more exhilarating than looking out over a sweeping view once you’ve reached the top – even more energising now when the air is often bright and sharp. Go with a friend, add a dog and check the forecast first – stay home if bad weather is due to roll in. Pack a hot drink in a flask, plus a simple winter picnic of homemade pasties (wrapped well, they’ll stay warm for ages) and cake… Visit deliciousmagazine.co.uk for recipes and visit countryfile.com for other inspiration for winter walks.

Don’t let seville orange season pass you by – this is prime marmalade-making time, if you’re so inclined. Find all the recipes you need at deliciousmagazine.co.uk/marmalade, including twists that invite other citrus fruit to the party in the preserving pan.

BETTER BREAD FOR ALL

Have you heard of Real Bread Week? Run by food and farming charity Sustain, the campaign is all about baking and buying bread that’s good for you, the community and the planet.

From 18 to 26 February, professional and home bakers alike are invited to share what makes their bread unique, using the hashtag #RealBreadWeek. This year there’s a focus on flatbreads, integral to the cuisines of so many cultures.

Bakeries are being encouraged to trial an affordable loaf scheme to help widen access to quality bread while bolstering small businesses. Find out more at realbreadcampaign.org; @realbreadcampaign
