OUR SEPTEMBER ISSUE HAD A FRENCH THEME AND IT MADE A BIG IMPACT...

Subject: World of inspiration From: Anon

Loved the French issue. A great opportunity to celebrate the lifestyle, cuisine and products of another country. As Instagram user @hanna_ and_blake pointed out in your A World Of Flavour chat [Sep, p13], the UK has all the cuisines. I enjoy shopping at the international supermarkets in Leeds. The fresh produce is varied and excellent quality. There are so many interesting products to inspire and it’s an insight into the food culture of other countries. Our diversity is a feature of this country and it’s always great to see delicious. embracing it.

How wonderful to see Felicity Cloake recommend La Cale beach restaurant in Normandy [p18]. We found the place closed pre-season and Monsieur serving lunch to his builders. He said as long as we didn’t mind having the same saucisse et frites we could stay for lunch. One proviso: for us to wash the glasses and help ourselves to cider!

We had a house in the Loire and the issue took me back to the wonderful markets, superb choice in supermarkets and freshness of the veg. No wonder the French eat as they do – if only we had aisles of yogurts instead of more processed food, and markets selling seasonal food, we might be like them. More issues like this one, please.

Thoroughly enjoying the issue. We have a house in the Languedoc and love the time we spend there. Two points: the best croissants we buy frozen at Carrefour. And while some French people do seem healthier than us [p112], Sue Quinn should visit our town, where only the young are slim and older people stay healthy thanks to medication from the pharmacie. Otherwise, Vive la France!

Interesting comments in August about cookbooks [p12] – one reader giving them to a college and another writing in them and keeping them (I love an annotated cookbook!). I never know what to do with food mags – they’re too good to throw in the recycling. Fellow readers, what do you do with yours?

I just wanted to share my bake of Anna Higham’s fabulous brioche tart [Aug, p67]. A labour of love, but it turned out beautifully. I used the remaining dough for cinnamon buns, which were equally delicious.
