From make-up made for the school run to the pro’s dos and don’ts, your guide to looking fresh (even if you feel far from it)

DO IT LIKE A DOC

Award-winning clinical skin expert Dr Ewoma Ukeleghe on the products that really do brighten skin.

Exfoliators. ‘For an instant glow, I kick my routine off with a chemical exfoliant, such as Sarah Chapman’s Liquid Facial Resurfacer, £48, a sophisticated medley of gentle acids, like salicylic, that shift dulling dead skin cells quickly.’

Microcurrent devices. ‘They’re investment pieces, but a session with a good one does wonders for radiance and tone. I use the FaceGym Pro, £575; results are tangible and the tech is science-backed.’

Face masks. ‘Not all are created equal, but if you make a beeline for one that shouts about radiance, glow and luminosity, your skin’s likely to look juicy for at least an hour or so after application. My favourite one to splurge on is the Sisley Paris Black Rose Cream Mask, £133.’

Cryotherapy. ‘If you prefer sheet masks, keep your favourite in the fridge and massage an ice cube over the top of it once it’s on. This constricts the blood vessels in the skin‘s surface, which can calm inflammation and reduce puffiness.’

Skin enhancers. ‘As a skin expert, I’m drawn to make-up-skincare hybrids. Primers are a great way to boost your glow. Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin, moisture magnets that help your skin retain water throughout the day.’ Try Westman Atelier Skin Activator Serum, £115, or Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Hydrating Primer, £37.

DO… TOOL UP. ‘I keep cooling globe rollers in the fridge for a wake-me-up facial massage that de-puffs. It’s my holy grail for looking fresh-faced before make-up application.’ Try Oxygen Boutique Mermaid Cryo Tools, £65.

DO… APPLY FOUNDATION FIRST. ‘Even if I’m concentrating on concealing my under-eyes, I always apply a thin layer of foundation where needed first. When you apply your concealer, blend into your foundation and you’ll achieve a seamless finish that lasts.’ Try Lisa Eldridge Seamless Skin Foundation, £44.

DO… DISGUISE DARK CIRCLES WITH A LIGHT-REFLECTING CONCEALER. ‘Apply sparingly to under-eyes and buff out. If your skin is oily, set it with powder.’ Try NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer [2+4], £19.50, and Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre [3], £46.

DON’T… FORGET TO CURL YOUR LASHES. ‘I never leave the house without doing this! It makes me look and feel more awake.’ Try Surratt Beauty Revelée Eyelash Curler, £32.

DO… USE A MASCARA THAT GIVES YOU FANNED OUT, LIFTED LASHES. ‘This gives the illusion of bright, wide-awake eyes. Always apply plenty at the roots for maximum definition.’ Lanc
