Beer lovers rejoice! We’ve rounded up the finest craft brews to enjoy this summer

PINTLE, BURNT MILL BREWERY

A longstanding favourite with craft beer lovers across Suffolk – Burnt Mill’s brewery is located just outside Stowmarket – Pintle is fast gaining fans further afield, and with good reason! This was the first beer Charles O’Reilly, owner of Burnt Mill, brewed on his home kit years before opening the brewery in 2017 and is still the brewery’s biggest-selling beer. A pale ale brewed with wheat, oats and Vienna, Cascade, Citra and a touch of Kazbek hops, Pintle has a refreshingly dry finish and restrained bitterness. The perfect brew to enjoy on a summer’s day alongside barbecued food!

TABLE BEER, THE KERNEL BREWERY

We all know how easy it is to drink a little too much a little too quickly in all the excitement of the summer sun, which is why it’s great to have a lower ABV beer to hand. At around 3% ABV, Kernel’s Table Beer is a great option. Made with malted barley and rolled oats, Kernel were inspired by the cask tradition in its creation in order to ensure that it remains full in body and character despite its low alcohol content. Hoppy aromas and a well-balanced bitterness are the stars here, with a pale golden colour, sweet malt flavours and refreshing bitterness making this a top brew for the summer season.

SWEEPING COAST, DURATION BREWING

There’s not much finer than sitting in a sunny spot with a pint of expertly brewed craft beer, and Norfolk’s Duration Brewing offers this with aplomb. Duration produces fresh beers and wild and blended farm-style ales brewed with purpose; our pick this season is Sweeping Coast. This West Coast pale is dry, clean and bright and made with Mosaic, Azacca and Simcoe hops. Deliciously resinous and vibrant, it’s a firm favourite for summer 2024. Until the end of September you can visit the brewery for tap days, where there will be six beer lines available alongside street food, cocktails, wine and soft drinks. Located in the lush Norfolk countryside, the courtyard outside the sustainably-minded tap room is dog and family-friendly – perfect for a stop-off with loved ones this summer.
