T here were cheers, gasps and an excellent result when the Prince of Wales enjoyed a day of football fun with his elder son Prince George.

As well as their almost identical outfits, the two Aston Villa fans also wore matching expressions to cheer their team to a 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest at the Birmingham club’s Villa Park ground.

Watching eagerly from the executive box, George, nine, jumped up from his seat to high-five his fellow fans – including the club’s chief executive Christian Purslow – when Bertrand Traoré scored the first goal. He and Prince William, 40, who is president of the Football Association, also chatted to England men’s manager Gareth Southgate.

The young football fan is following in his father’s footsteps with his love for Villa – William has been a fan since the age of 11 and has been spotted at many games, joined not only by George, but also his wife the Princess and their daughter Princess Charlotte, seven. Youngest child Prince Louis, who turns five on Sunday, has yet to join them but is known to be as sports-mad as his siblings.
