She may be a newcomer to The Crown, but Meg Bellamy was taking it all in her stride after stepping into the shoes of one of the world’s most famous royals.

The previously unknown actress, who plays Kate Middleton in the TV series, joined her castmates at the premiere of the eagerly awaited sixth and final series of the royal family drama.

Living up to her stylish new role, Meg, 21, arrived at the Regency Village Theatre in Los Angeles in a chic black silk gown by Stella McCartney – a label the real-life Kate has often worn.

By her side were co-stars Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Diana, Princess of Wales; Khalid Abdalla, who plays Dodi Fayed; Sir Jonathan Pryce, reprising his role as the Duke of Edinburgh; and another newcomer, Ed McVey, making his debut in The Crown as Prince William.

Meg joined her on-screen love interest, who was dressed in Valentino, together with Luther Ford, who has taken over the role of Prince Harry, for photos, with Rufus Kampa and Fflyn Edwards, who play younger versions of the Princes, also part of the line-up – as was a lone corgi that walked the blue carpet.

Despite her limited acting experience, Meg won the role after sending an audition tape to Netflix and now, according to reports, is set to become a big star.

She is already a “friend” of the French label Dior, while other luxury and fashion brands, such as Cartier, Valentino and Jaguar, are said to be keen to sign her up.

After detailing the circumstances around the then Prince and Princess of Wales’s divorce, the final series of The Crown spans the late 1990s and early 2000s and chronicles events in the royal family that many of us will remember, including the outpouring of grief that followed Diana’s death.

The series, released in two parts, begins with the Princess’s holiday in St Tropez with Dodi, while the second half covers William and Kate’s love story as students at the University of St Andrews, where some of the filming took place.

Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival in August, The Crown’s executive producer Suzanne Mackie discussed covering Diana’s death, saying it had been handled sensitively.

She said: “The show might be big and noisy, but we’r
