T hey last performed together 11 years ago, so when itwas time for Girls Aloud to announce a reunion tour, they put on quite a show.

To the delight of fans, Cheryl Tweedy, Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle are going back on the road next year to mark their 21st anniversary, with 15 dates including gigs in Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, London and Birmingham.

The tour will also pay tribute to bandmate Sarah Harding, who died of breast cancer in September 2021, aged 39.

“Announcing the Girls Aloud Show arena tour next May/June 2024,” they said in a social media post. “A celebration of Sarah, our music & our incredible fans. We can’t wait to sing & dance with you again.”

Plans for a reunion had been under discussion for several years, but were put on hold following Sarah’s diagnosis, said Cheryl, 40.

“We all started talking about the possibility of doing something to celebrate Girls Aloud’s 20-year anniversary a few years ago. The anniversary seemed like an obvious thing that we would celebrate. But when Sarah fell ill, all priorities changed. She passed away a year before the anniversary and it just didn’t feel right; it felt too soon. But now, I think there is an energy that does makes it feel right.

“It’s the right time to celebrate Sarah, it’s the rightlast performed together 11 years ago, so when it timStime to celebrate the band and the right time to celebrate the fact we can still do this 21 years later.”

Kimberley, 42, added: “Over the last year, we’ve felt this outpouring of love – obviously towards Sarah, but actually towards all of us as a group. And I guess it’s ignited something in all of us again. It feels like something has changed and it does feel like the right time to celebrate Sa
