Why do today’s famous 50-year-olds look so good for their age? Queen of Harley Street Lesley Reynolds shares her thoughts…

In the ever-evolving landscape of beauty and wellness, one steady trend has emerged: celebrities defying traditional notions of ageing – and 50 seems to be fast becoming the new 30. In Hollywood, age has long been viewed as a barrier to success. However, in recent years, there has been a shift. Celebrities now confidently discuss their age, redefining what it means to grow older in an industry that has historically placed a high value upon youth. The result is a generation of individuals who are not only ageing well, but are also serving as inspiration for their generation and ones that follow.

It may surprise you to learn that Victoria Beckham, Eva Mendes, Melanie C, Elizabeth Banks and Olivia Colman have all turned, or are turning, 50 this year. They all look as good – if not better – than they did 20 years ago. So what are the celebrities in this age group getting so right?

One key factor lies in their holistic approach to health and beauty. Gone are the days of relying on drastic measures to maintain a youthful appearance. Instead, today’s celebrities are embracing a more balanced lifestyle, and making self-care and wellness a priority.

Take Victoria Beckham, for instance. As she approaches her 50th birthday next month, Victoria remains as radiant as ever – no doubt thanks to her well-documented habits of healthy eating, regular exercise and a meticulous skincare routine. She exemplifies the importance of taking a comprehensive approach to ageing well.

Similarly, Eva Mendes’ effortless beauty belies her age, and this seems due to the actress’s more natural approach to beauty, from making time for wellbeing practices (she’s previously revealed that she’s “big into meditation”) to using coconut oil as a moisturiser. And it’s clearly working.

This is a step away from the showbiz generation before, as we’re now seeing some stars in their sixties and seventies grappling with the consequences of their previously indulgent lifestyles. Overindulging in alcohol, processed foods and smoking has an undeniable ageing effect on the skin, as can extreme diet fads of decades past. Perhaps surprisingly, being too skinny can also drastically age the face and skin.
