Clun Green Man Festival

5-6 May 2024

Music, circus skills and Morris dancing are just some of the many things to be enjoyed at this traditional Shropshire fair, taking place in the splendid grounds of Clun Castle over the May Day bank holiday weekend. Expect family entertainment with plenty of activities and food and craft stalls. Be sure to watch the processions and see the great battle! One-day tickets are available from £8.

Fawley Hill Vintage Transport Festival

17-19 May 2024

Fawley Hill Railway, not far from Henley-on-Thames, is the venue for this glorious vintage transport festival, where you can travel in a locomotive from a Victorian station with the steepest standard-gauge track in the world. At the museum, you can see Spitfires, motorcycles and much more. There will be live music and entertainment from noon until late. Tickets available from £15 (under-12s free).

Keswick Mountain Festival

17-19 May 2024

This popular Lake District event (1) is packed with activities, including guided walks, yoga and running. You can also expect to find outdoor clothing and equipment exhibitors, accessible adventure providers and a packed programme of speakers, including ‘Iron Man’ Sean Conway and broadcaster and author Louise Minchin. Hikes, swims, cycles and triathlons are just some of the sporting events available, and you can let your hair down at the two music stages. Tickets from £20.

Hay Festival

Reading, conversation and live performances are all there to be enjoyed at one of the world’s biggest and best festivals to celebrate literature and the arts, which takes place annually at Hay-on-Wye in Herefordshire.

Hay is filled with renowned authors and writers from across the literary world, with voices as diverse as author Jodi Picoult, comedian Ruby Wax, actor and writer Lenny Henry, and presenter and Camping and Caravanning Club president Hamza Yassin.
