Ramp up the volume of your hair with these body-boosting products

There are many reasons why you might want thicker hair, from the universal wish for a bit more swish, to the psychological impact of thinning hair, as revealed by hair care brand Philip Kingsley’s recent survey that suggests 75% of British women are worried about hair loss. There’s no magic potion that brings back lost strands – and if your hair’s noticeably thinning, prioritise a GP visit before a trip to Boots – but a great quick fix can make a difference. The styler

Remember mousse? It seems to have fallen out of fashion with consumers, but the best hair professionals won’t go a day without it. ‘I love mousse, I put it on 90% of people, girls and guys,’ says A-List stylist Larry King, and no wonder he’s keen. The good old foamy stuff bulks out every single strand so hair feels immediately thicker and holds onto volume and root lift like nothing else. Bad memories of crispy 1980s hair? Modern formulas give all the oomph with none of the crunch. Try Larry King My Nanna’s Mousse, £19, larryking.co.uk, or John Frieda Volume Lift Thickening Mousse, £5.99, Boots.

For blow-drying, a small paddle like BaByliss Mini Paddle Brush, £6, Boots, gets into the root without getting tangled like round brushes can. Pull hair upwards as you dry for va-va-voom volume. For everyday brushing, Denman’s D81M Medium Style and Shine Brush, £16, lookfantastic.com, is your go-to. A mixture of boar and synthetic bristles adds shine and gloss to give your hair a polished look.

T he root lift trick
