Therabody smartgoggles for sleep

Does it really work?

First, there was the muscle gun. Now Therabody wants to do for your REM what it has done for your DOMS via new SmartGoggles

We nod off in the name of research

When it comes to topics it’s poor form to brag about, the ability to fall and stay asleep is up there with how often you turn on your heating. So I’m loathe to admit I’ve never had an issue with it. I clock up at least nine hours a night and on the rare occasions I don’t, you’ll know about it. I do, however, feel some degree of stress, most days. So an offer to trial the new SmartGoogles from Therabody – formerly Theragun, which makes the now cult muscle gun – was as tempting as a lavender-sprayed pillow on freshly laundered sheets.

Smart eye masks are nothing new, but the promises of Therabody’s version read like a wellness wish list; it’s designed to ease facial tension, relieve eye strain, nix headaches and relax your body and mind through heat, massage and vibration. What sets the SmartGoogles apart is their proprietary biometric sensor. It’s been proven to recognise your pulse and deliver a slower frequency of vibration and massage that your pulse then starts to mimic, decreasing your heart rate.

Pair with a guided meditation for a true sense of zen

There are three modes to choose from. ‘Focus’ uses heat and massage between your eyebrows – the ‘third eye’ chakra, said to clear mental blockages when massaged – and your temples, to relieve stress and reduce facial tension by increasing blood flow. ‘SmartRelax’ uses heat, vibration and a wavelike massage, rising and falling in your temples and the pressure points around your eyes, to induce calm – again via blood flow and relaxing your muscles. ‘Sleep’ uses heat, consistent vibration and a temple massage.

Despite my hibernation habits
