STAR EMAIL

Subject: No waste – food or paper! From: Jack

As a cookery teacher in a secondary school, I often plan lessons around delicious. articles.

After attending a decluttering class, however, I realised my back catalogue of magazines was taking up too much space, so I set about sorting recipes into a tidy folder.

You’ll be pleased to learn that very little went to waste. Pages have been upcycled into interesting displays, from food waste (a subject that gets mentioned daily in class) to burgers and pasta dishes (thanks for the huge variety over the years) and revision prompts... All from materials I might not have seen for years. Thanks for keeping the magazine current.

Subject: Memories of France From: Angie Coombs

Debora Robertson’s feature [Feb, p54] was beautifully written and conjured up the atmosphere, smells and sounds of the French fish markets. We spent a year travelling through France and Spain, and shopping for dinner was a pleasure – I miss it dreadfully. I made the haddock parmentier as a celebration of those times and am so looking forward to reading more from Debora.

Subject: 30 a week is do-able From: Barbara Rhodes

I enjoyed the 30 plant foods a week feature [Feb, p112]. I first came across this idea in 2021 and gave it a go. Being a bit nerdy, I set up a spreadsheet to record items and keep track of duplications. It made me think carefully about what I was cooking, and my weekly average after a month was 54. To me, it makes far more sense than the much publicised five-a-day.

Subject: What about sobriety? From: Lou Milligan

I love delicious. but why not include a booze-free option in the drinks section each month? There are lots of people who don’t drink alcohol for various reasons but would like new ideas. There are loads of breweries offering low/zero alcohol drinks and lots of alcohol free ‘spirits’.

delicious. replies… You’re absolutely right, Lou, and from next month a no-alcohol option will be a regular in the drinks pages rather than an occasional item.
