Great British Food Magazine
2 May 2014
Of all my food-related childhood memories (there are an awful lot!), picking fresh strawberries at my local PYO farm has to be the most evocative. It's basically a wonderful blur of super sweet fruit, sticky fingers and competing with my cousins to find the most luscious berry patch. These days my self control is much improved from when I was a greedy-handed toddler, but my insatiable appetite for scarlet bright strawberries – ideally still warm from the sunshine – remains. This month we're celebrating British fruit in all its glory, with cherry tips and trivia (p.72), our guide to retro trifle perfection (p.74) and some seriously delicious strawberry puds (p.36). The great thing about summer is that, rather than having to be resourceful with what's available, the only hardship is deciding what to eat first! Nathan Outlaw's simple but very special fish dishes (p.81) really make the most of the season's bounty, while Mary Berry's foolproof 3-course menu (p.121) is ideal for relaxed outdoor entertaining. To finish, check out our British Beer & Cider Guide (p.109) for some fantastic summer tipples. And don't forget to vote for your favourite British food and drink brand in our Farm Produce Awards. Fill in the form on p.107 or vote online at greatbritishfoodmagazine.com/awards for the chance to win £500 worth of KitchenAid goodies! Natasha, Editor - natasha@aceville.co.uk
