Welcome to the February issue. Though I am sure a mention of Valentine’s Day might have some of you cynics rolling your eyes, at PlantBased, we just can’t resist celebrating love whenever we get the chance. And I don’t just mean romantic love; let’s normalise telling all the people in our lives that we love them. Something I read on Instagram this month has stayed with me: “Everything we say at funerals should be said at birthday parties instead. We leave so much love unspoken.” Tell the people you love them that you do! So with Valentine’s in mind, we have some ideas for a delicious meal at home, as well as some edible gifts, and a gift guide for if you do want to splash out and treat someone you love. But in case you’re thinking, ‘Love? I’d rather fall in chocolate’, never fear – we have you covered there too! We’re celebrating it with a recipe section this month, because we can’t get enough of the stuff. Think muffins, profiteroles, ice cream sandwiches, brownies, and even chocolate hummus. Next time someone says they can’t go vegan because they don’t want to give up chocolate, hand them a copy of this issue and prove them wrong. And we’re also ringing in the Lunar New Year with some recipes, giving you some inspiration for family dinners, and providing some ideas for anyone who might be thinking about trying a raw diet. Plus, in our Nutritionist’s Notebook this month, we are exploring pickled and fermented foods – tasty and packed full of nutrition.
